Jesus was so concerned about the impact of the Pharisees
He not only warned His disciples, but He commanded them to avoid that impact. However, the disciples not understanding that were more concerned and worried about something that Jesus already demonstrated on more than one occasion that He was more than amply able to provide.
Let's look at today what Jesus was trying to teach
(Music)
surprised that I make it
And I'll make it again
It seems that
do not generate faith
It perhaps might reveal it
Christians today seek it seems a lot of miracles you will hear people on the radio in places looking for miracles and I'm not saying good God doesn't do them and that a lot of times he
Don't see them at all
But so often we're expecting God to perform a miracle naturally performs a miracle
We go back Not trusting him and the very
that he just performed the miracle on and we're going to kind of see that again when Jesus does this miracle if you will for the second time and yet His disciples don't seem to understand and so if you have your Bible you should turn to the gospel of Mark chapter 8 We're gonna start with verse 21 It says in those days when there was Again a large crowd and they had nothing to eat Jesus called his disciples and said to them I felt compassion for the people
and have nothing to eat Now this is a
of times people there are some who say well This miracle and the feeling of five thousand is the same and it's not both in the sense of the situation And what Jesus does because in the feeding of the five thousand Jesus tells his disciples to give them something to eat It's a different group of people. It's a larger group These people have been following Jesus's in this teaching for three days and he doesn't want to send them away Because they've had for the three days
them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way and some of them have come from a great distance So Jesus understands who the multitude is and he has compassion for them because they've been willing to be with him for that length Of time and don't have sufficient supplies to head home. So he wants to provide for them having compassion on them and His disciples answered him. Well, will anyone be able to find
here in this desolate place to
the feeding of the five thousand
five loaves and two fishes
to feed that Group of five thousand men plus the women and children which was a
this here is
after Providing for all to eat and be satisfied. There were twelve baskets full left
Where's the understanding but there now well, this is a
the money where are we gonna buy the food
And He was asking them how many loaves do you have? They said seven.
This is so there are seven loaves whereas in the five thousand there were five loaves So there's two more loaves less people
And he directed the people to sit on the ground and Taking the seven loaves he gave thanks and broke them and started giving them to his disciples to serve to them And they serve them to the people and so Jesus takes the loaves gives thanks to God and breaks it and starts distributed
having the disciples participate in the passing out so that they might understand
four thousand people are being fed that
is
men they participated in the miracle
They also had
them he ordered them to serve to be served as well So in essence, he's if you will giving them fish sandwiches. And so they feeding them. There's
it's a good meal so that
again with these few
to satisfy the four thousand people And they ate
They picked up seven large baskets full of what was left over of the broken pieces
with seven loaves. We end up with seven baskets We end up with after everybody eating and being satisfied not having just a little bit But having been satiated
over than when they started with
Just
five thousand they had more left over than when they started with now to me That's a pretty awesome
of the five thousand And about four thousand were there
says that there's four thousand that were fed and satisfied and after having eaten that they Provided for so now you would think
is able to
able to handle whatever situation because let's
His disciples have seen more than just these two miracles. They've seen healings. They've seen blind men They've seen the death. They've seen the lame. They have seen demons cast out They have seen
and still they're having
Immediately he entered the boat with his disciples and came to the district of Dalmutha
Pharisees came
from him a sign from heaven to test him Notice
to learn they're not there to understand. They're not there to become Disciples or to have faith they're there to argue with him
Because they've already made up their minds who he is And so they want him to form a sign not so that I might be convinced But they might be able to
not the Messiah And
people like that. They just simply want to argue
They don't want to learn anything. They just want to argue with
find out that all they want to do is argue
Why raise your blood pressure just Say you're gonna think what you think I'm going to know what I
And let's just leave it at that And so they came to argue with Jesus and to
against him In sign deeply in his spirit. He said why does this generation
Troy truly I say to you no sign will be given to this generation Again because what they're seeking for is to have some
say oh I believe or don't believe But the fact that they have a sign doesn't give them
matter of fact Jesus on a different occasion Will say that the
is a sign of Jonah
even in that sign
Jesus as Jonah was buried for three days in the tomb and rose again on the third day and what did they do with that sign they exchanged it for a lie and
the body So even when he shows them an absolute perfect sign They still refused to accept the sign not because the sign
but because their hearts hearts were hardened
In leaving them he again embarked and went away to the other side
And they had forgotten to take bread and did not have more than one loaf in the boat with him so Marcus telling us okay. Here's the situation immediately get in the boat They only had one loaf of bread and that's all they had
we had to get in the boat quickly
And he
I want you to notice that he was giving them orders. He wasn't giving them instructions He wasn't warning them. He was commanding them He
saying watch out beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod
So
There is this leaven now in general
But leaven has an impact for those
But understand that if you take a little bit of leaven it Affects the whole loaf and raises the whole loaf and puffs it up
Leaven impacts the entire loaf of bread. It doesn't impact a little bit
And Jesus saying 11 of the
Now I'm going to admit that it's a lot easier to point out other people sin than your
I want you to also understand that I may be blind to my own So it's easy to be critical but but what is Jesus talking about?
First
Pharisees do? The Pharisees had pride
that they weren't
Which violates the scriptures it says for you to love the Lord your God with all your heart all your mind all your soul and all your strength And to love your neighbor as yourself They violated the commandments by their pride by being
weren't like other people That they didn't even
so that they might turn them to be whatever that they might No longer be sinners
also
preferred their tradition over the commandments of God
They also
again when Jesus did perform the miracles and perform
They refused to believe it because of the hardness of their heart And Jesus is saying Guys, you disciples Beware
to be proud like the Pharisees that you're not to Lord it over others that you're not to consider yourself better than us That's why a lot of people
you think we're better than us. No, we're just saved
I'm
It's not because of who I am but because of who he is. It's not because
because of what he's done
of times you'll get
the exact
Pharisees
that your church tradition is more important than what the scriptures say
Follow
His scriptures follow his commandment be subject to that
So he's saying Don't be like the
Herod Well, what
embarrassed by what john the baptist was preaching decided to imprison him
Sorry
and instead of
him or repenting in order to not look bad had him
pride in his position
than the
the truth
Jesus is telling
careful to not be like the Pharisees
him And again, it's not he's so concerned about it. It's not a matter of I'm
Advising you it's I'm ordering you to avoid that
because it will impact Everything that you are or do
said this and they
one another
The fact that they had no bread
a lot of the times when jesus would teach They would least
to say jesus. What do you mean
And it would be the crowd or the Pharisees that would say
amongst themselves what he meant
Here they're arguing amongst themselves
Because they were afraid they didn't because they only had one loaf of bread and there was 13 of them Jesus and
have enough bread
And jesus Aware of this said to them. Why do you discuss
Do you not yet see or understand? Do you have A hardened heart the very thing that i've been warning you against and commanding you against to not have a hard heart Is that what you
Why don't you understand because you've been seeing that I have been supplying the needs of thousands
Five loaves
thousand men seven
one loaf 13 people I don't think it's
But isn't that how we are oh look, you know, it's
having surgery it's minor If i'm having surgery, it's major
Because it's happening to me So all of a sudden well, well, he yeah, he can he can feed those people
But what about me?
he is more than adequate to supply the needs of not only us But the multitude
see now this is the very same thing that
the Pharisee
You
seeing Isaiah talked
And having ears you do not hear Isaiah talked about you and he talked about the
Or do you not remember
And then he'll give them some facts
Now what I want to hear
When this
and faithful slave
What I don't want to hear is
What did you do with what you saw and what you heard
That's a pretty big condemnation
Followed him and heard him teach and saw him perform miracles and saw him Provide for needs and yet they saw and didn't understand and they heard and had no comprehension I
Want to be able to trust my lord and savior
Says and do you not remember?
When I broke the five lows for the five thousand and how many baskets full of broken pieces you picked up and they said 12 so they remember
broke the seven for the four thousand how many large baskets full of broken pieces did you pick up
Again i'm sorry And they said to him seven. Okay, they were there they were aware Yet it seems that they had no understanding
Because they were hard-hearted
And he was saying to them do you not yet understand
in those of our lives for believers
And we've seen him in our lives
And we've seen him interact And sometimes he
miracles and sometimes he sometimes states quietly not because he's not
But
better reason for it
But he does say for nothing
That will happen that he does not turn into good for those who love him and are called according to his purpose
Do we not understand
That
every single need
And the most important need
supply The way that we were sinners
Separated from god in fact enemies of his
He came That we might be forgiven That we might be redeemed that we might made justified that we might
of god that we might be made children of god
forever and ever and ever and
So if I miss lunch today
But I
Because not only does supply
My needs supplies things that I yet can comprehend
Trusting Trusting
can do
Far more and abundantly that we can think of or ask
Because he is a god
That can supply all of our needs
those
When it comes to the most serious need that we have
And he sent his son that he might die on that cross be buried and raised again on the third day So
And be aware and having eyes and having ears understand
That not only did god love us he did something for
Not because we were worthy
it but because of who he is
